As I slog through the websites of all 501 Pennsylvania public school districts, I’m struck by how few contain useful financial information. (I don’t consider a copy of the budget document sent to the Pennsylvania Department of Education as “useful” to a normal human being.) So it’s a pleasure to add another school district website — Tuscarora SD (Franklin County) — to my “Transparency Honor Roll.” If you check out a page labeled “Business Office Services”, pay special attention to the top entry, a .pdf file of a discussion of fiscal trends dated July 15, 2008. It’s entitled “Public Education under Stress” and isn’t explicitly related to contract negotiations. But it’s a neat example of clear communication on budgetary issues.
